Man charged after knife report in Hatfield

A man has been charged after police received a report of a person seen with a knife in Hatfield.

Police received a call at around 4pm on Wednesday (9 September) from a member of public reporting that they believed they had seen a person with a knife by Asda.

Officers attended the scene and traced a suspect to St Albans Road West where a stop search was carried out.

A knife was recovered and the suspect was arrested.

Rufaro Andrew, aged 29, of Pond Croft, Hatfield, has been charged with possession of a knife/bladed article.

He will appear at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Friday 30 October.

Sergeant Martin Field said: “This incident demonstrates the importance of reporting concerns to us and I would like to thank the member of public for making the call.

“As a result, a weapon is now off the streets of Hatfield and a suspect will be dealt with through the court process.”
